How to Backup Your Device Settings Using the Clone Feature
For precise instructions on how to create a cloned backup file of your exact unit’s settings, we recommend visiting the official Xerox Support page, entering your model, and then searching for the word “clone”. Regardless, the process is fairly simple for all models of compatible Xerox machines. Once you have a clone file, you’re free to keep it backed up in a location of your choosing. In the event you ever need to restore your settings, this is the file that you can use.
However, there’s a further benefit to creating clone files in addition to simply creating a backup: you can use this file to automatically apply your exact settings to another printer of the same type. If you’re expanding your office and getting a second or third printer, this will allow you to effectively “clone” the first device quickly and easily. You won’t have to go through the settings on the new printer by hand.
Keep a Backup of Your Settings AND a Configuration Report for Redundancy
If you’re serious about preserving your settings, keeping a clone file backup of the configuration as well as a hard-copy configuration report is likely your best bet. Your Xerox device can print out a detailed configuration report for you, which includes a written-out version of the settings as they are as well as a lot of other useful information about the printer.
If you have both a clone file and a configuration report, there’s little to no chance of ever having to remember the settings in the event that you need to reset the printer, or if you get a new one.
