Few businesses and organizations throughout the country would turn down a way to cut down their energy expenditures—especially these days!
One of the best ways to reduce energy costs in your workplace is with modern Xerox office equipment. Multifunction printers and other devices made within the past few years have been specifically designed to use as little energy as possible, particularly when not in direct use.
Have you ever heard of the concept of an “electricity vampire”?
The idea is that many devices in our homes and offices, even while not being used, can still consume power. This “phantom” expenditure can slowly but surely rack up unnecessary costs—that’s why Xerox MFPs have energy saving and sleep modes capable of mitigating unnecessary energy use as much as possible.
In today’s post on the QDoxs blog, we’ll be taking a look at these features and how they can help your business or organization save money and reduce environmental impact.
How Energy Saving Mode Reduces Power Consumption During Off-Hours
Most modern Xerox office equipment has two modes available to save power: energy saving mode, and sleep mode. Let’s first discuss energy saving mode.
Sometimes called low power mode, energy saving mode is a standby state that the multifunction printer will enter after a short period of not being used. The printer is still technically online and can accept tasks like normal. There is little to no delay between assigning a task to the printer and the device “waking up” from energy saving mode.
Generally speaking, you’ll want to leave energy saving mode enabled pretty much all the time. There is no efficiency cost and, if the printer doesn’t have any tasks, it won’t consume more power than necessary. You can configure the amount of time it takes before the printer enters energy saving mode. Thirty minutes to one hour is typical.
Most Offices Should Probably Use Sleep Mode During Off Hours – Here’s How & Why
Sleep mode is different from standard energy saving mode in that it causes the device to enter a state of even further reduced power consumption—in this mode the printer is available to accept tasks as normal, except the delay before “booting up” and accepting the task is slightly longer than with energy saving mode. It is, however, still quite rapid.
This mode is generally set up to automatically engage after the printer has already entered energy saving mode. If the device has been in low power mode for long enough—a duration which is configurable, usually another thirty minutes to one hour—it will enter sleep mode to conserve even more power.
