Whenever a major operating system upgrade is released, such as Windows 11 or Monterey 12 for macOS, we all tend to hold our breath for a few moments, don’t we?

Fortunately, things seem to be going pretty smoothly this time around—if you’ve made the upgrade, you’ve probably found that your Xerox MFP is continuing to function as expected with little to no intervention on your part. For those of you who haven’t upgraded yet or plan to soon, we decided to publish this blog post to give you a bit of information about how to confirm if your Xerox devices are compatible with the new operating system upgrades.

We’ll start with a bit of good news:

Most of the time, operating system upgrades won’t cause anything to go wrong with your Xerox devices. For example, if you’re moving from Windows 10 to Windows 11, there’s a very good chance that everything will continue as normal. If you’re installing Windows 11 on a brand new machine, you may need to manually install the correct driver for your device.

Windows 11 users can check this list of compatible devices as provided by Xerox. Apple users can visit the Xerox Support page, search for their model of Xerox device, and check the drivers tab for any updates available for Monterey 12.

In the event that you don’t have a driver available for your device, or you’re using an older or obscure operating system (such as a legacy system or a custom OS for your work environment), there’s an easy workaround available to most users with modern Xerox office equipment: cloud printing.

In some cases, drivers aren’t available for the operating system you’re using. While Windows 11 and Monterey 12 have matured and should provide support for your device, sometimes bleeding-edge, just-released operating systems don’t have support yet—so if you always want to have the latest and greatest, you may at some point in the future find yourself without driver support. As mentioned previously, obscure or custom operating systems may also lack driver support. This, however, does not by any means make it so that you can’t use your printer.

Thanks to Xerox cloud printing, you can use just about any device to control and send print tasks to your multifunction printer. There are a variety of ways to go about cloud printing, with popular options being AirPrint for macOS devices and Microsoft’s Universal Print feature for Office 365. Since the print tasks are being assigned over a network connection, including the internet, there are no drivers necessary.
